Whether you are a man or a woman, using a special balm is essential to keep your lips hydrated and protect them from external aggressions.
You will surely find them in pharmacies, drugstores and online. The problem with these products on the market is that you often ignore everything they contain.
This is why it is advisable to make your own at home. It's very simple and fast. All the ingredients are natural, healthy and easy to find. Discover in the few lines that follow the 10 best recipes.
The basic ingredients of a lip balm
All 100% natural lip balms must contain the following 4 basic ingredients: vegetable oil, wax, vegetable butter and preservative. What is the role of each of them?
Vegetable butter
Vegetable butter has moisturizing properties, thanks to its richness in essential fatty acids and vitamins. It is soft and particularly suitable for the skin.
It nourishes and fights against dry lips, no matter the season. Its virtues are different depending on the plant you choose. The most effective would be shea butter.
Wax
The wax, for its part, guarantees the solid texture of your lip balm. The less you put, the softer the dough. This substance also has a special ability to retain oils for better hydration.
Depending on your preferences or what is easiest to find in your region, you have the choice between animal wax (bee for example) or vegetable wax (soy, candelilla ...).
Vegetable oil
Vegetable oil is especially essential for the properties of its active ingredients. It is she who defines the virtues of your lip balm and the complementary care it provides apart from hydration.
To treat already damaged lips, for example, it is advisable to opt for sweet almond oil which has healing properties. To nourish and hydrate them if they are extremely dry, choose olive oil.
The conservative
The preservative is the substance thanks to which you can keep your lip balm for ten months.
Contrary to popular belief, there are indeed natural preservatives such as vitamin E oil. You can also opt for wheat germ oil, which is much cheaper but suitable for an abundant amount of vitamin E It does not contain gluten.
Additional ingredients
It is also possible to personalize your lip balm by adding perfume. To do this, you can use essential oils for example. In addition to bringing a particular scent to your product, they also make you benefit from their virtues (healing, softening ...).
To color it, you can also add powders from natural plants such as beets, hibiscus, cocoa and many more.
